End 2011 and bring on 2012

Reflecting back on what I have acheived in 2011.
Well moved to another country, where English is not the first language. I have a good job, good principal and co workers. I have a nice house with lovely neighbours. I live by the harbour. I have made new English friends. I have made new Swedish friends. I have more quality time with my kids. I talk alot with my old friends and family.
Do I miss the uk? No
Have I made a good decision of moving to Sweden? Yes.
I do not regret of moving here. I feel I have achieved so much in the short space of time than I did for a long time in the UK.
My good friends are keeping in touch with me and you guys I miss. What would we do without the technology??
My family are coming and spending more quality time with me.
Ananya has developed more confidence here and she has had a taster in skiing as well as learning to ice skate.
Jai has developed skills on reflecting and is fantastic with his reading and maths. He has enjoyed playing ice hockey.
Overall we have achieved so much in 6 months and have thoroughly enjoyed every minute.
So bring on 2012....

Christmas in Göteburg

Hi all, we have had a few busy and enjoyable month in December.
First of all,JASP wanted to wish all of you, our friends and families a very merry Christmas. We hope you had a good holidays, and Santa bought you what you wanted for 2011.
Looking back now, what a great year it has been for us. We have made a great move to Sweden. We feel we have achieved so much. It's great here. Life for the kids is amazing.
Ananya and Jai are learning to ice skate (for free) and have had a chance to ski. Ananya has become very responsible and comes home on the tram by herself. She looks after her little brother (sometimes!!!)
We went a "julbord" for a chambers of commerce party, where the kids had their own entertainment and the adults could enjoy themselves with other adults. Again, we left at 11pm on a bus and it was safe!!!
The second best party was @Cathy's house (another expat) the wives of AZ employees were not invited to the AZ party so we had our own. It was an amazing night. Cathy, the best party host xxx
Finally Christmas was celebrated on Christmas Eve with my brother and his absolutely fantastic and generous family. We all were so excited to see them.
We went to Liseberg, long walks, and drank and ate loads. OMG I have out weight on... Back to the diet!!!!!
How was your Christmas? Let us know.. We will love to hear from you xxx

An important part of our success in education is that we provide a secure environment for teaching and learning. We believe in discipline, the concept of “tough love” and we have high expectations for everyone. This is in stark contrast to the currently endorsed “feel good curriculum” in so many other places. We see the need to work hard and be ambitious in order to reap the rewards. Every member of our team is committed to placing high quality education first.
A school which experiences constant progress in learning, in an environment free of fear of bullying and violence, becomes a place filled with joy and good vibrations. At our International English Schools, we see student achievement as a shared responsibility involving the student, family, educator and community.
All of our schools employ the system of continuous assessment in all grades. Using this system, we ensure that we always know how each child is progressing and can avoid unpleasant surprises at the end of the school year. We provide formal feedback to students and parents four times per school year via conferences and end-of-term reports.  Naturally, we have a range of support mechanisms to help every student, covering both academic and social issues. An example of such support is the mentor teacher, who is given responsibility for each child and to whom parents are encouraged to turn with their questions.
Of course, there is nothing like seeing our school in action. We welcome you to come and see how we work.
Come and visit us on Saturday 26th November 2011, at kl10.00 where you will be greeted by myself, Ms Rothstien and our Assistant Principal, Mr Bailey.

Week leading to number 47

Ok that was a fair few weeks that no blogs have been written. Could it be because was the kids and I were fighting over who was to write it or could it be I was so busy that kept on forgetting? Hmmm, that I will leave up to you to decide.
It's now approaching the end of week 47. What that means is that does not leave long for Xmas.
Parminder has turned the big four oh! We did a surprise party for him. It could be a birthday he never forgets if he remembers it!!!
Amar, Swinder mum and of course khrishy came for the weekend. That was good. We missed them.
Ananya, Jai and I went to London for a week and the first thing we saw was mess, crowds of unhappy and miserable people.
What did I think of the UK? Definitely did not feel at home. I love being here, I enjoy the life, culture, society and the tram system- unlicensed transport is great!
It was very nice to see everyone.Well sort of everyone!! Missed some if you. Sorry.   :=)

Simce then I have been back, parminders birthday which we were all excited aboutx
His mum and dad were over for 2 weeks. I hoe they had a good time as we were  all out 5 days a week!
It was nice to have them over, made the house feel warm. They obviously missed home and the family and went back yesterday. It felt cold... Maybe it is the weather?
Now life is back to normal. It's starting to feel very Christmassy here. Love it. What else is new???? Nothing.

Week 11/12 or in Sweden it's now week 40/ 42

After a relaxing weekend it's go,go,go.
The weather was misty over the weekend and now the wind has started to pick up. Brrrrrr it's nippy!! I think the hats, coats gloves and scarves are coming out!

It's only Tuesday and it feels like Friday. Now is that that good or bad? Friday's are the days when we are happy as it's the weekend, but it has been a rough couple of days as it's only Tuesday.. A tough week but a good one so far!

Today we had Archie, Elanor and Jack over. They come over every Tuesday. Its great. Finally Ananya and Jai have their school friends over to play with and (I think) they have a great time together, playing talking and hanging out.
It's so nice to have the kids over.
It was a busy week. The staff at IES had many mid-term reports to complete. But together we pulled through.
I am also in a team that are planning a UN week of many activities. This is so exciting. This weekend I miss my old neighbourhood buddies. Especially after Annis put up she was a girlie night!!!! Tina, where are you? You must come here for a visit. Louise, we need to connect on FaceTime. I am always on so call, don't want to call Mark at work!! Angel, Deb and Joe I am coming to see you soon xxx

I had a nice weekend, where we took Jai to play ice hockey for the first time. He has never ice skated, so he was practising that first. It's cool. So much better than football!! Lol
The weather is starting to turn cold now. Leaves have just about fallen off the trees. Winter coats and hats are out. The heating is on. It's cold. The days are getting shorter. But I am going to hold on--- tough it out!

Week 10... And what a week

Hi all.
What an excellent end of the week to a tough beginning of the week.
I love challenges and I am enjoying everyone of these, at home, at work and on the public transport system...
We all went to a crayfish party.. It was brill.. The kids had pizza and a movie, we had adult time.. The schnapps taste awful and the crayfish and prawns are so so so messy but yummy to eat.. All I can say is I had the biggest headache on Saturday morning!
Coming back at midnight on the bus with the kids is an experience I would not like to do in the UK. It was very pleasant and safe here. No drunks, no mess, no kids with very little on all over the streets... The city was buzzing but in a nice way. We saw only one police car.. That was because there was a big ice hockey game on in the same place Frolunda tigers vs New York Rangers. So gutted I missed it.

So heard it's really hot in the UK. Wow, in October? God your seasons are so messed up!lol

In Sweden, the trees are starting to turn into lovely autumn colours, the leaves are falling and it's beautiful xxx Kulwant Penji you want to be somewhere cold, come here, it's not hot nor cold, just lovely..

Hey saffron, happy 3rd birthday princess, I have been trying to call you but you must so busy...hope you like your presents xxxx Can't wait to see you.
Hi Khrishy, it was nice to hear you talk, you are so funny... Can't wait to see you too give you a big big cuddle xxx hope you are looking after your dad.. Hey Swinder, how are you doing? You better be keeping up to date with the blog.. And post some comments on as you have so much time!!! Seriously, hope you are feeling better and taking it easy xxx

Jai and Ananya are loving it here. They have made heaps of friends and jai is starting to feel good at school.. Finally, fingers crossed it will be like that xxxx take care all and talk next week... Do comment on the blog!!

Week 9

Hi all
I think today we are all going to write something. How are things over in the UK? Are you all ok? It is still sad to hear about Raj, but we are all thinking of you and the family.....
What's happening down there? Kav, the movie for Rupa's night before wedding was awesome, how did you make it the following day? It seemed like a fantastic party xxx miss you all too, you must come and visit!
Swinder hope you recover soon. We are thinking of you and looking for jobs for you too!!
Paji and Jag were are you both? We have been trying to Skype and face time you.
We miss you all too.

Hi Rhiya, how are you? I miss you loads. I really want to talk to you but you never seem to be on the internet or the PlayStaition. I hope to see you soon.
I have made a friend called Erika. She speaks very little English. She is really fun to play with: we always go out and play at the parks or play round each others house.
School is really fun. I think that I am learning the same things that I learnt last year, but some things are different. I have made lots of friends. One of my friends is from Poland and she speaks very little English. how is your school?
I used to go home by tram, but now that we have a car, I go to this after school thing which is in fact, BORING!!!
There are woods just across the road.I went wondering in there, to see if I could find some treasure but no, just a path to the other end of the road!!!!
I like Sweden. It's cool. Miss my old buddies though... But we will catch up... I think.... Spk later
Ananya xxx

hi all, it's Jai now.... Finally my sister has decided to come off the iPad so I can have a go too in writing... I really think my dad should buy me a iPad then me and Ananya won't fight!!
I can't wait to come to England.. I miss my friends... My mum is a little bit cross with me as I have lost my specs! Sorry mum...
I have been learning lots at school, all about caring, sharing, being knowledgeable and principals...it's great... My mum loves it when I speak about the hard words!
I went to a birthday party last week and it great... It's like those soft play centres but really really really really big... I had so much fun... I will take you when you come and visit....it's been raining here and I have enjoyed playing in the rain and in the sand.. My mum has not been happy about it! I wonder why!!
I will speak to you all laterxxx Jai xxxxx

These kids do take their time in writing!
It's been a nice weekend... I have enjoyed spending time with my new Swedish friends who tried so hard in talking English all evening just for me...they invited me to a crayfish party and I messed up again!! But they were so nice...
Today, Sunday I spoke to everyone I wanted to... It's great having Skype xx Tina I can't wait to come and see you... Khrishy, Saffron, Jase, Ethan and Rhiya it's about time I came and gave you all a BIG BIG BIG cuddle... Can't wait to see you all.. Must say I am so proud of my younger brother for doing the half a marathon this morning... Well done Jag...

Week 8

What a tough week. RIP Raj xxx you will be missed. Still very shocked. Just cannot believe it x
It has been an interesting week for work though... I am glad its Friday. :)
It's 8.25 approx and my 9th graders have a test. They are working very well. It's only patterns and sequences.
Being a teacher from England with experience of examining and invigilating, These kids are finding it tough. Maybe I am too strict!!
Wednesday was a great day. I walked 9.8km up and down some very steep hills. All the kids in all schools get involved this week. They raise awareness for cancer for kids. P.E. Is so important here and the outdoor life is essential. No matter what the weather is like we all go out. Nothing is cancelled.

Took to the kids to an indoor play area for a friends birthday party... It was great... So clean... So big.....and adults could join in... Swedes do know how to do things!!
I think I am going for a bike ride by the harbour as the sun is out and probably have a BBQ tonight...

Week 1

Hej

Well.... what a week!!!
I have just completed week 1 at work. It's amazing how nice these people are. When I first started working for Regent College, it was the same in the ICT dept. The family feel, everybody helping each other out, having someone to fall back on. This time the difference is, the principal. She is just like you Victoria. The passion, the thoughts and her way of thinking and bringing out the best qualities in you. The difference is it's not the department... It's all the staff.... Dan, Adam, Angel, Joe and Shizad you guys are missed too. Wish you could be here... You would very much fit in.
Today the new staff have a day in Stockholm.... Team building...and meeting the owner of IES...so running for a train at 05.30 was fun!
I have left the kids home this week and running for buses and trams, but am I any fitter? NO....I enjoy the fika... Coffee breaks... And their buller (cakes) are so yummy, especially the mud cakes.....
The weather has been great. The house is awesome. The neighbours are nice.
We have been to the harbour, which is 5 mins away... Rock climbing.... I think walk through the forest will be next!
I'll be back soon with more blogs...... In the mean time, enjoy the rain and the riots....

Just coming back from my training and it was brill. Swedes now how to do training and keep staff happy.... Wow I am stuffed.

New colleagues from IES are so young and full of life and amazingly nice professionals... Still miss you old lot.....

Faith in humanity restored...

Today we went to the gurdwara in Gothenburg and found that religion can be good as well. In an unfamiliar environment it can bring people together, bringing with it a sense of community.

A slight aside. On the way to the the tram stop this morning, we were running a little late. At the crossing, opposite from the tram stop, the tram pulled up. A police car was approaching the crossing and even though the light was green, the car stopped, realising that we were running for the tram, and waved us across!  As we ran for the tram and got close, the doors closed. No! We'd missed it. But the doors opened again and we got on! I'm sure back home, the driver would have waited until we were close and pulled away!

Our plan for today is to go to visit the archipelagos. Have a picnic and enjoy the weather. Pictures will be posted as soon as.
